Good morning,
I have a question about scoring MDM in the ED. When you are looking at # of diagnosis treated, how do you score? I know the problem status in 'new' or 'established' to the practitioner. I had a discussion with another coder, because I feel that that a presenting problem is usually new to the ED because even if they came in with let's say COPD before, the physician is not the one managing the pt.'s chronic conditions, so the status of the dx is always new to the examiner. The exception would be an injury or acute illness that was treated in the ED and the patient returns for follow-up either because the condition is worsening or the med is not helping i.e. bronchitis or back pain. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks so much!![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
