I have a question about billing for PA. My son was seen in an ED while on vacation. We were only seen by a PA. They are trying to bill under the attending physician who we never saw. Is this allowable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Agreed

I'm guessing they are billing this as a "Shared Visit". This means that the ED Doc would have had to document participating in care of the patient, not just generally supervise. If your son never saw the ED doc then it wouldn't qualify as a shared visit. For what it's worth the amount of the bill to you for the PA vs the Doc would probably be the same. But when billed to Medicare and other payors under the PA, they take a 15% discount.
It would be interesting to request a copy of the medical record to see what is there...
