Hey All.

Our practice has been checking the patients pulse ox for asthma patients or patients that have bronchitis. We were billing with CPT code 94760 and the dx as the dx of the patients illness.

I have found in the Coding for Pediatrics book we should you the dx of hypoxemia 799.02, with the pulse ox procedure.

Does anyone know if we should always use this dx or if the pulse ox is within normal range to use the dx of the illness?

Thank you.

you cannot use a dx code that has not been documented for by the provider. If the provider does not state hypoxemia then you cannot code for it.if all you have is asthma or bronchitis then that is what you use. If the puls ox does not get reimbursed then it is not suppose to be paid by the payer, due to medical necessity or it is bundled with other procedures.
