We are a privately owned Orthopedic practice with our own Physical therapy department. We have recently been looking into hiring a PTA to help with our patient load, however we are confused about billing for PTA services. So can someone please clarify whether or not we need to bill their services with the CQ modifier? Our therapists bill incident to the physicians in our office. Its my understanding that the PTA cannot bill incident to the physician and will have to bill incident to the PT. I just want to make sure we are correctly billing. u

yes assistants can never be incident to physicians. They are always incident to the PT. IF PTA provides the service then CQ modifier would apply
