When you bill for a Neuromuscular reeducation can you also bill for a electrical stimulation? These are codes 97112 and 97014. I have a patient they do a 97112 and use a 97014 and I need to know if they do a 97112 and use the 97014 at the same sitting , can we bill both?

Greatly appreciate your opinion,

Thanks,

Hi,

Yes, you are correct. You can bill code 97014 and 97112 separately and get paid for both. The first code is a modality code while the second is a timed therapy. If you worry about clinical edits, you may want to append modifier -59 to bypass it. :)

You can never just "bypass" the clinical edits with a 59 modifier. You first check to see if there are edits, if there are then you need to check to see if a modifier is allowable, if so you must look at the documentation to see if this involves 2 separate areas, if so then and only then may you append a modifier. If the edits show this as non modifiable, or if two separate areas are not involved, then you may bill only one.
