Good Morning,
I am needing some help. I am a coding student and we had a test and one of the questions was to code for a screening PSA. I coded G0103 and got this wrong. My instructor says it is 84153. It is my understanding that this code is only used for BCBS or for medicare if it diagnostic. Can anyone help? Thanks.

PSA laboratory testing

Hi
For a screening PSA you'll report G0103, off the top of my head the only "medical necessity" diagnosis/screening code that will work for this is
V76.44.
Most insurance companies will not allow V82.9. I also found that V72.62 will not work with many insurance companies either. It has to be the V76.44.
Just to let you know that the majority of physicians will also apply the 600.90 for the diagnostic testing CPT 84153. Be sure to be looking at the office visit. Most physicians don't code this correctly. Also refer to your ICD 9 book it tells you to also list the symptoms with the 600.9x code. Be sure to use 600.91 when there are urinary symptoms dealing with prostate hyperplasia.
