The question: If I am working on somebody who had a gallbladder tumor first (had the gallbladder removed) and then a liver tumor in the gallbladder fossa, do I consider the primary tumor a liver tumor because it was very close to the liver?

I really don't know if the tumors are malignant, I believe, they are wanting to answer whether the primary code will be liver tumor or gallbladder tumor...my brief experience with ICD-9 coding would lead me to say use a liver tumor code, since the gallbladder has been removed...I pose the question, as it was presented to me...so I came to the forum for the best answer to relay...

fos?sa for gall?blad?der [TA]
a depression on the visceral surface of the liver anteriorly, between the quadrate and the right lobes, lodging the gallbladder.
If there is no gallbladder, then there can be no current gallbladder tumor. And perhaps add Dx code for prior history of gall bladder tumor.
