When a drug is given to prepare a patient to recieve a more agresive drug, ie. Carboplatin and Alimta, what do we use to code this? Carboplatin is used for B12 deficiency that is a common side effect of Alimta, but Medicare and a lot of insurances won't even look at most V-codes and they don't accept preventive service V-codes. :confused:
 
What drug is being given for the B-12 deficiency? Carboplatin is not given for B-12 deficiency.
Carbo and Alimta causes B-12 deficiency and patients are typically given a B-12 injection for that and also take Folic Acid oral daily.

Carbo and Alimta are both chemo drugs given for a few malignancies....
