I know this is an often discussed issue but wanted to get some verification if possible.
Adult patient comes in for annual check up.
Provider documents:
Comprehensive History
Comprehensive Exam
Moderate MDM.
During the above patient - with history of asthma and osteoporosis - reports wheezing and hip pain.
Provider orders usual annual labs. Provider orders 10 days of Prednisone for asthma flare up.
Bills: 99396, V72.31 & 99213 - 25, 786.07, 719.45
My opinion is that the 99213 should not be billed is that there really is nothing separately identifiable about the service. It was within the context of the well check and the only additional work was a presription.
I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this in case I'm seeing it inappropriately.
