Patient dictation states "61 y.o. gentleman who comes in today for followup on his hypertension, hyperlipidemia and reflux. He did have some labs today and wanted to go over those. He said he really has no complaints, no concerns." "Assessment: Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, GERD." Can't get patient to understand we can't bill this as Preventative care. "But I talked to BC/BS and they said if you code it right as Preventative care, they will pay it." We have signs in each exam room reminding patient if they are here for an Annual/Preventative Care Exam please inform the provider. Reception also asks if this will be Annual/Preventative. Generally, patients just don't understand this and consistently state "my insurance company says you filed it wrong." Any advice?
