I'm finding that the Practical Applications are very challenging.. Who can give me some hints as to where to start to find the CPT and ICD-9 CM codes ?

Can you be more specific?

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking ... I don't know what "Practical Applications" you are talking about ... Is this a pratice test? A code-a-round?

The index in both CPT and ICD-9 is where you go first. Of course, you have to know what way the person who made up the indes was thinking, and that is surprising sometimes.

Excample VAC dressing is found under WOUND, Negative Pressure Therapy ... It took me a while to remember that one, so I wrote in my index under V - VAC dressing = Wound, Negative Pressure Therapy.

For diagnosis, you consider the condition first, then the location. So, for the patient presenting with a broken arm, you would start in the index looking for FRACTURE.

Hope that helps.
