Wiki Post/pre auricular skin

I am probably reading too much into this but...

Specimen sent to pathology labeled "skin; postauricular." Would you consider "postauricular" and "preauricular" skin of the ear? Or would you believe it is referring to the skin 'behind' the ear (scalp?) and skin 'in front of' ear (face?)

I have been using face for pre-auricular and scalp for post aricular.
Not sure if that helps =)
