Patient had Surgery 10/10/12. MD told the pt he was okay to return to the gym and the wound was re-opened. Pt was seen by a Different MD on 10/19/12.

UHC denied the claim as part of the global period.

What would the appropriate modifier be?
Not quite sure since its a different physician.

It sounds like the MD's are part of the same practice, complications are not billable in the postop period. If the MD's are in different practices, then no modifier is needed. And you can usually call UHC and get that straighted out quickly.

UHC follows Medicare global guidelines and the patient must return to the OR to bill any services related to the surgery, complications or otherwise.
