We have a phyisican who is coming from another Orthopaedic group and joining us. My question is if he has patients that are "post-op" from where he was in practice and now they will be following up here afterwards - can we bill as a new patient if they haven't been here before? of course I know would depend on the documentation also - thanks in advance

A new patient is one who has not received professional services by the physician or group (of the same specialty) within the previous 3 years. By that definition, if the patients were treated by any one of your physicians in the past 3 years, they are NOT new.
I would also note regarding "postop" that if pt is in global period, unless it is something billable outside the global, this is likely no charge 99024.
