The patient had a total thyroid lobectomy, she was still in the OR and developed a spike in her blood pressure and began coughing while still intubated. She developed a hematoma at the thryoidectomy site and the had to be re-prepped and the physician had to evacuate the hematoma. He also performed wound exploration, a Blake drain was inserted and the patient was monitored before being transferred to the local hospital. Since she was still in the OR, can you bill for the evacuation? Thank You!!

FYI- I queried a fellow coder/mentor in regards to this; if this type of situation happens in an ASC, you can code accordingly, if the patient was taken out of the OR and brought back in for the complications. :)
