We have recently discovered that because we are an Optometry office, Medicaid will not reimburse us anything for the patient's post op cataract visit. Since we cannot bill 66984 to Medicaid, does anyone know if we can still bill a 99213 OV code with the cataract dx or is this considered fraud? I'm still new(ish) to this so any information would be a huge help! Thanks in advance! :)
 
E&M should not be reported. If you are not allowed under medicaid you shouldn't be having the optometrist performing the post op on those patients.

I did not think we could file an OV instead but it wasn't going to hurt to ask! And as far as performing post op's on Medicaid patients, it has been discussed with the surgeon we co-manage with that he will need to see Medicaid post-op's from now on. Thanks for your reply!
