I am hoping someone can help me. My doctor saw a patient in the hospital, did critical care, cardiac cath, stent, subsequent hospital and discharge. Everything with these services are fine. Doctor wanted to see her in the office about 2 weeks after discharge for a follow-up. I billed with a 99214 established patient office code. Her insurance company denied the claim saying that if we would have billed with a follow-up code that it would have been paid. Does anyone know what code they are talking about? I can't find any other code that would be appropriate. Thank you.

The only follow up E/M code I know of is 99024 which is a no charge surgery follow up and would not apply in this case.

Could it be the dx code they are talking about not the CPT? Like V67.09?

Just a thought,

Don't you think 99214 is a little high for a post surgical followup with no complications?
