Hello Fellow Coders; looking for some help. We are trying to decipher in our Orthopedic office if it is accepable for MRI's and CT's to be billed out under a physician assistant with a supervising physician attached.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid have a Radiology Fact Sheet.

It states in the first paragraph: "Mediciare covers imaging services that are performed or supervised by a physician who is certified or eligible to be certified by the Americian Board of Radilogy..."

I tried to attach the link but was unable to.

Most of us read this to mean the "supervised" part could include a PA, Nurse pract. or rad tech; but a few other coders only read this to be for rad techs. I would think if MC wanted this to be specificly restricted to rad techs, it would clarify that.

Opinions please! Also we have billed a few to MC and gotten paid on these.
