I need some clarification. Would it be appropriate for a physician to bill a physical therapy evaluation code? My understanding has always been that these services must be performed by a physical therapist, however the question has be brought up again and I'm having trouble finding clearly defined guidelines for this. Can anyone help?

I work with a Humana contracted company that reviews PT. Physicians can bill IE if they perform it and refer the follow up treatments to a PT

Perhaps the guidelines are payer specific? I wish I could be more help.
