When a patient is seen by both PT and OT on the same day for two different treatment areas such as we are billing one with treatment of the left hand and the other we are billing treatment of the right hand How do you bill so one isn't denied as a duplicate? The codes in question are G0283, 97140 & 97110.

At the clinic I worked at, we kept the charts, accounts, and everything separate. We had different therapists for PT and OT, so it wasn't hard to keep them apart. If one was denied, we appealed w/ notes from both accounts to show they were receiving both types of therapy. Most insurance plans would not cover both types of therapy at the same time though. On occasion, they would treat one area first and when that was satisfactory, they would then treat the other area to avoid denials.
