I would like to know how to bill immunochemistry code 88342 and 88341 on a case that have multiple specimen. for the 88342 code there is an MUE that says you can only bill 3 per date of service. additional stains done on the same specimen will be bill with an 88341 per instruction. My concern is if I have a case that have 10 specimen, I know that I can bill (3) what code will I use to bill the additional 7 specimens? Please I need some clarification. if you have any written rules or tell me where I can find it. I would appreciate very much.

If the pathologist identifies in the report 10 individual specimens (not slides) then you will bill the first immunostain for each specimen as 88342, then the additional stains as the 88341. If the payer maxes out at 3 per day, you can try to appeal with the path report.
