ORTHOPAEDIC CODERS.. HELP...... diagnosis and procedure code????
This is status post total knee arthroplasty and now has a patella fracture
Opreation: [B]Lateral retinacular release[/B], right knee. Excision of patellar fragment.
Description of procedure:
Incision is made from above the patella down to the tibial tubercle, carried down though subc. tissue. Lateral flap raised. I incised through the lateral retinaculum, examining. The fracture fragment is identified, superior lateral pole. Using electocautery, we excise this fracture fragment compleletely and removed it, rongeur this smooth. I test the patella for stability. It is intact and it is stable. I elect to leave the retinacular release open and do so. The joint is thoroughly irrigated..................
