Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the rules are for PA's and procedures in the ED. If a PA does a procedure, and the Attending attests to the procedure... can this be billed under the Attending's NPI?

Thanks!

I do not think this is appropriate, and the service should be billed under the PA's NPI. Your scenario sounds like a teaching physician or incident-to type scenario.

My Rationale:
Incident-to guidelines do not apply in any setting other than office (POS 11) and this POS 23 (ED).
Additionally, teaching guidelines do not apply to NPPs (NP, PA, etc).
Finally, split/shared only applies to Evaluation and Management codes.

Hope this helps!
