Can someone explain to me if a patient comes for a Pap only visit .Should I Use a routine office visit example 99396 or a regular office 99213 code? without a physical just a pap visit. Thanks.S.P CPC.
I personally would use the 99396 if the pap smear is a routine preventative examination. Also because the "exam" with this code is based on age so to me the preventative code makes more sense. Hopefully other people can comment on this as I would also like to see what other responses are posted.
