Can anyone tell me if you code 63685 and 63688 with modifier 51 for a spinal cord stimulator replacement. The old pulse generator stimulator was removed and a new different type was inserted into a different area, so wouldn't that be both codes since it's not the same pulse generator or same area? Help. I am taking a coding test for employment with a pain management surgical center.

Hello,
Use both CPT codes 63685 insertion or replacement whereas code 63688 revision if they are different electrodes then pop on modifier 51.

I just looked and the CPT says mod 51 is not acceptable for Ambulatory Surgical Centers, so would I use mod 59 instead or nothing.
