Hello, one of the providers insists on adding P3001 instead of Q0091 when she collects pap smear and send it to the lab, says she is interpreting the results so it should be P3001
Can someone explain to me when providers can report P3001?

Thanks in advance

It is my understanding the the P3001 is when the specimen is processed on site in the same office by qualified provider. Q0091 is appropriate when the specimen is obtained at the office, then prepared and send to an outside lab.

P3000 and P3001 are reported by the lab for their services. The physician professional service is only reported using Q0091
