Wiki outpatient vs inpatient pls HELP

We had a patient who was scheduled to have an outpatient surgery while doing the surgery she needed her appendix removed a provider was called to assist, then patient stayed at the hospital over night will the primary surgery change from 22 to 21 ? The provider indicated patient was admitted for post surgery status to the gyn floor planning a discharge next morning.

As soon as I hear the word "admit" I think Inpatient.

That's what is confusing, she was admitted to the gyn floor just for operative post and discharge the next day..
