Hi. We have a psychiatric NP who is asking if she can provide telehealth to a client in the UK. The client is technically a resident of the state that the provider lives in; however, she is away at school in the UK. This is NOT an established patient.

Has anyone ever provided telehealth to someone who was overseas? Are there international rules regarding teleheatlh?

Thank you,

Tara

I do not have concrete support, just knowledgeable advice that may help...

Since the patient is not permanently residing in the UK and is still using the USA based address this may be okay. The USA PT address is what is going to be on your PT information from the practice as well as what the insurance company has on file. I would advise to clearly document the pt is being provided telehealth services while studying abroad.

As long as the provider is practicing from their licensed location, I do not suspect an issue should arise.

Now if a patient permanently moved, this may cause some queery.

I hope this helps! Please me posted on how this works. I am from the UK originally so would be interested to see :)
