Previously we had been instructed by an outside auditing company that we could use OTC medication as Moderate risk if the provider documented the dosage, risk if too much is taken etc.
In the 2021 guidelines its states that OTC's are only low risk.. Does anyone know which is correct?

According to the MDM Table of Risk for 1995/1997 guidelines as well as the MDM table for 2021 guidelines, OTC drugs are low risk. I'm not sure why the auditing company would tell you it can be moderate as OTC drugs are specifically listed in the Table of Risk in both the 1995 and 1997 official E/M Guidelines.

Hope that helps!
