For the diagnosis of osteoarthritis if a note states degenerative arthritis or end-stage or long standing arthritis would you code this as primary osteoarthritis or are you specifically looking for the provider to state "Primary Osteoarthritis"? What if it just says AC Arthritis can I use M19.01_? I'm getting a little twisted up in the exact wording the providers are using???
 
Unless the doctor states post-traumatic or secondary - we usually use primary. Degenerative or end-stage, I would use primary.
