Does anyone know if there are specific regulations (CMS, OIG, a state
DOH, etc) for the verbiage of orders to send a patient to observation? The
closest I have seen in my search was an article in For The Record last August
that stated "auditors typically consider the use of 'admit' in orders to mean an
admission to inpatient status." Our system is looking to create a template
and/or policy for observation admission orders. Any guidance would be
appreciated! Thank you!
