When the patient is coming in to get an injection for example, should the ordering Dr sign off on it or the Dr that is in the building (incident to) at the time? Are there documented guidelines on this?

Thank you for any guidance you may provide!

You would want the provider who was overseeing the staff member administering the injection to sign off on the chart as they are the supervising provider for the services rendered that day.

So for example:

- Dr. Apple orders the patient to come to the office in 5 days to receive a shot
- The patient returns in 5 days. Dr. Bean is on duty that day and overseeing the Nurse who is administering the shot
- Dr. Bean would be the one to sign off as they are confirming that they had a valid order for the medication and that is was administered appropriately.
