Okay, discussion in our office today...

Is it necessary to have an order for a remote ICD/PPM interrogation and read, if the patient is ours? We are split down the middle in our department and need outside opinions.
If you have documentation from CMS or another credible (not wikipedia) resource, please share with us.

Thanks,

Do you need to have a separate piece of paper/prescription with the order written on it? In my opinion, no. What you do need is documentation within the patient's record that this is going to be done and why.
If someone else will be billing for the service, then yes, they will need an order.

Check the Medical Review section of your Medicare carrier website or LCD (if you have one) for required documentation.
