Can anyone tell me how you would code a partial medial and lateral meniscectomy along with an open removal of loose body in the anterolateral compartment?
The surgery started out as arthroscopic until the large loose body was seen and he converted to an open removal.
 
Description of Procedure-- In part:

Through an anterolateral puncture, arthroscope was introduced. The patellofemoral joint was inspected and there was noted to be chondromalacial changes in the patellofemoral joint with extensive synovitis and plica formation. Shaver was induced through anteromedial portal. It was completely debrided carried down in the medial compartment was noted to be a complex tear of the medial meniscus. This was removed with a shaver as well as baskets to a stable rim. Large osteophytic changes as well as multiple loose bodies were removed with the shaver. The bur was utilized to remove the spurs medially. There was noted to be bone-on-bone changes to the medial tibia. Anterior cruciate appeared intact. Lateral compartment showed marked degenerative changes with multiple loose bodies again removed with a shaver as well as the burs. A lateral meniscal tear was debrided with a shaver and baskets as well as the ArthroCare unit until a stable rim was obtained. Significant chondral defect was noted in the lateral femoral condyle. This was debrided with a shaver as well as stabilized with the ArthroCare unit chondroplasty fashion. There was noted to be a large loose body anterolateral and incision was made over this area anteriorly and identified and this was removed through an open procedure over the anterior lateral aspect of the knee. Portals were switched. No other significant pathology was noted. Tourniquet was released. Hemostasis obtained with ArthroCare unit until clear. Wounds were closed with nylon suture.
 
29880 will be the only code you can bill. 27331 MIGHT be able to, but I strongly doubt it was 27331 has indicator 1 for 29880 as bundling per NCCI edits. So 29880 will be the only code.
