The Medical Billing and Coding Specialist-Surgery Division verify?s the surgeon's determination of services provided and patient's diagnosis via office and operative notes. Audit?s hospital reports for surgical procedures with office billing to ensure accuracy of billing to insurance companies and enters surgical charges in the billing system.
This Specialist also maintains complete knowledge and complies with all relevant insurance, CPT coding and diagnosis guidelines, disseminating info to staff and providers as necessary. Review?s quarterly provider audits, researching proper coding when necessary and working with coding and compliance as needed.
Documents conversations with insurance companies and patients and Audits FIN sheets to verify correct insurance and demographic information. Create relationships with external organizations (i.e. St. Joe?s and HVR) that allow for streamlining and quick resolution of billing matters for patients.
Communicates with hospital and maintains knowledge of all office services as well as familiarity with billing and managed care department basic services and hours of operation to respond to customer requests accurately. Coordinates and follows through with special projects as assigned and performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Certified Medical Billing Coder required
3. Minimum 2 years surgical/specialty billing experience or other related background.
4. Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology and procedures at the level needed to perform responsibilities, including understanding of CPT and ICD9 coding.
5. Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding insurance claim submission and ability to investigate and resolve billing and coding problems.
6. Knowledge of computer operations, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and sufficient keyboard skills to enter data.
7. Ability to be organized, effectively prioritize large volumes of work, focusing on detail and follow up.
8. Ability to effectively and accurately process multiple tasks at once and to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
9. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
