Job Details: The outpatient coding position exists to provide accurate and timely clinical data for billing and optimal reimbursement, quality assessment, external comparative databases, physician profiling, and administrative purposes. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the coding and abstracting of at least one of the following: ancillary/diagnostic services, ambulatory surgeries and observations, and interventional radiology procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Requires certification which may include: RHIA; RHIT ; CCS; CCS-P; CPC- P; CPC-H certification or if not currently credentialed/certified; the incumbent must receive coding certification/registration within eighteen months of hire date.
Requires relevant background in ICD-9; CPT code assignment and APC grouping.
Knowledge of Local Medical Review Polices (LMRP) and Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) edits.
Requires a high level of interpersonal and communication skills.
Requires effective written and verbal communication skills to communicate with physicians.
Requires the ability to function effectively in a high-volume environment.
Requires the ability to set and adjust priorities to meet departmental goals
