Good morning,

I am new to provider-based billing, and I am just learning (self-teaching) about TOB codes, particularly 12x and 13x. Our hospital committee is talking about billing for online digital E/M services, 99421 - 99423 and G2012. I guess since Cleveland Clinic announced they are now charging for these services, all hospitals will be looking into this! Anyway, these codes have a status indicator B - (Codes that are not recognized by OPPS when submitted on an outpatient hospital Part B bill type (12x and 13x).) Not Recognized by Medicare. My take on this is, these are professional fees only and would not split over to the technical side for the outpatient hospital, so, they wouldn't have the outpatient hospital bill type of 12x or 13x. Would that make a difference regarding the status indicator? Even though we are provider-based, couldn't we bill for these services if we so choose? I know there are other guidelines to follow, and I have already discussed those with the group.

Any insight is very much appreciated!
