Our Medicare account rep wants us to use E/M levels 99307-99310 as well as place of service 31 when a SNF patient is seen in our office by our physicians prior to chemotherapy. Is this the correct way to code an in office visit for a SNF patient? I haven't been able to find anything stating this on the CMS website. Any help would be appreciated!

It really varies by payor. Some Medicare payors have stated the status follows the patient and others I have researched say to bill what was done and where it was done. You may need to contact directly to find out. There is info in Medicare Claims Processing Manual, but this does conflict with some payors when asked.

There is a CMS transmittal from a year or so back that the POS is where the patient is registered. So if the patient is a SNF patient then you do use the SNF POS. Your Medicare Rep is correct.
