Hi,

Need clarification on CPT coding for "Burring down of right postauricular exotosis of the skull."
We see 21029 "Removal by contouring of benign tumor of facial bone" however this was the temporal bone, and isn't technically classified as facial bone. The other code we found was 61500, however this seems much more invasive and isn't allowed in an ASC which we are.

Does 21029 include all bones of the skull or just the face?
Here is our Op note:

"A 15 blade scalpel was then used to make the incision through the skin. I dissected down through the subcutaneous change tissues and postauricular muscle to the periosteum of the exostosis. This was then opened with cautery and a freer elevator was used to elevate the soft tissued from the exostosis. This measured 3cm wide by 2.5 cm tall and extended from the cranial contour by about 1.5 centimeters. Once this was completed a bur was used to bur down the exotosis so there is good contour with the surrounding calvarium."

Thank you for any assistance!!
