Hello.
I bill for general surgeons and OB/GYN, and one of my general surgeons performed an appendectomy on a patient who was 21 weeks pregnant. This was an open procedure - 44950. He had one of the OB/GYN doctors in for a surgical assist during the procedure. This was done, obviously, to protect the intrauterine pregnancy. The insurance company is denying my claim for the surgical assist saying it wasn't medically necessary. I did appeal the decision, but they still denied it. I want to appeal it again, but I am now looking for any information or resources to support the decision for the OB/GYN to be a surgical assist during the procedure.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks.
