Obesity as Primary
I am not sure if this is true for all, but in Louisiana Medicaid will deny claims with obesity as primary. If that is the only diagnosis, we see if there was any counseling done for diet and exercise and use those instead.

For the most part, it depends on the patient's insurance policy guidelines. Most of the payers which we submit claims with the obesity as primary, the claim will be denied or reduced payment. The same is applicable to Depression and/or Anxiety dx. I do code based upon the documentation so if the patient was here for obesity as the primary reason then that's what I code the claim.
