We order routine urine drug screening on our new obstetrical patients. We are having trouble with the labs not wanting to use our pregnancy code. Any suggestions?
 
Drug screening on OB patients is not a routine screening. I don't believe that this would be covered, unless the patient was suspected of using or had a history of using.

I use the reason code for the drug screen, and then the pregnancy code, and with that we have been getting paid. It shows that this is not done on every patient, and that there is a reason for the drug testing.
