Hello, I have a question from a provider group wanting to bill a 99211 for blood pressure check ( for example) following a phone call where the physician/ARNP has instructed patient to come to office for BP check.
When I audit 99211 charges I make sure there is a link to providers documentation for the service. Can we link a phone call to the nurse visit?

Thank You,
Louise

Per the CPT book instructions, a telephone service may not be billed if it led to an E/M service within the next 24 hours: If the telephone service ends with a decision to see the patient within 24 hours or next available urgent visit appointment, the code is not reported; rather the encounter is considered part of the preservice work of the subsequent E/M service, procedure, and visit. So if this nurse visit falls into that range, then the phone visit would be considered inclusive. If not, then both may be billed.
