I am not 100% -- but am going by a few consultants in the past (even one at an AAPC national conference) that have said that as long as we bill under the NPP's billing information, they are able to bill new patient care. However the caveat would be we could never bill incident to.
My question is United Healthcare policy states that "United Healthcare will pay for E/M services for specific non-physician practitioners (i.e., nurse practitioner (NP),
clinical nurse specialist (CNS) and certified nurse midwife (CNM)) whose Medicare benefit permits them to bill these services."

Is it appropriate to bill a new patient service when performed by a Clinical Nurse Specialist who was her own Medicare # and NPI? I am inclined to say yes based on previous info I have received and what is on UHC policy. If anything different I would love to know....

thanks for any help I get :)
