Question about NPI billing:

If you have three different offices do you have to have three different NPI numbers to bill. Medicare is confusing me. I cannot get a straight answer -

Is it only Medicare or is it all the carriers?

Please help!!

Thanks

Denise

NPI is unique number per provider

The NPI is a unique identifier for each provider. The NPI follows that provider throughout his/her career. Where s/he performs the service is immaterial. The NPI is attached to the person, not the location.

ONE NPI per person.

Thank you Tessa and Priscilla -

One more question - do the same rules apply for DME or is that location specific? Medicare is telling us it is location specific.

Thanks again
