What are the guidelines for a nurse practioner billing for allergy shots and allergy serum? Does a physcian need to be present in the office when these services are provided? Can the nurse practioner be the "supervising" provider (without a physician in the office) and bill under his/her own number, and be reimbursed at a lesser rate?

NP guidelines

Per CMS, if you are billing "incident to" the supervising physician must be present in suite. You would need to bill the NP as rendering and the physician as supervising. If you choose to bill the NP independently, they must have their own Medicare number, and yes, the reimbursement will be less for the billing under the NP number.
I hope this helps.
