Wiki Not sure how to bill this enc. Help please

Pt went to ER, dx?d with wrist fx, splinted. This was 9/6.

Pt came to ortho to be seen on 9/8/14. PA that saw her said that a cast will likely be put on at next visit when swelling goes down.

Pt then came in on 9-12, had sores from splint, so took off and casted wrist.

How would you bill all this?

I am thinking EM on 9/8 and then start fx care on 9-12? Or would fx care start 9/8?

Hello, The fracture care CPT should be billed with the E & M ( add 57 modifer) on dos 09/08/14-starting the global period. (Not every fracture requires a cast). On 09/12, you then bill the CPT for the application of the specified cast only, and the materials if allowed by your payer. Robin, CPC, COSC
