Wiki Normal newborn turns sick on subsequent day, can second day be billed as initial hospital inpatient?

I have a baby who was born as normal and billed CPT 99460. The second day, the baby turned sick. I need to bill as a hospital inpatient code. Do I use a subsequent inpatient code or an initial inpatient code?

Is the doctor contracted with Hospital? Our pediatricians are independent physicians, when they do hospital round, we basely bill according to H&P chart note

You would bill subsequent inpatient code and link the "sick" dx as primary (depending on the insurance carrier).
