My office is still using paper super bills and write no show or cancelled visit on the ticket. They have been saving all of those tickets for the past few years. In my last employment, once the tickets had been used to dismiss the visit in the billing system, the tickets were shredded. What is the best practice in this case? Thank you.

You probably just need to make an internal policy on whether you need to hold them and for how long. Some practices indicate somewhere in their practice management system or chart for tracking and termination purposes.

It really depends on how those no show/cancel superbills are used. What is the value to your or your practice by storing all those pieces of paper? Will you ever go back and pull one to tell a provider or patient that no, you weren't really here that day? If there is value, store away :)
