I am not new to GI path coding, but am relatively new to pediatric GI coding. I am coding a rectal suction biopsy and I have a path report that states

Rectal biopsy at 2cm - no ganglion cells identified
....................at 3cm - ganglion cells identified
....................at 4cm - ganglion cells identified

I know that this is done to check for Hirschsprung's, (lack of ganglion cells) but is this path finding actually coded? Or, do I just go with the indications? (constipation)

Any reference links and/or input is appreciated!

You'll likely want to speak with the pathologist and clarify whether "no ganglion cells" actually means aganglionosis (751.3). Otherwise, without a statement to that effect I'd apply the clinical indication as the primary dx.
